The Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport equips individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform patient transport duties effectively. The course covers key topics such as patient assessment, basic anatomy and physiology, infection control, medical terminology, and safe manual handling techniques. Delivered through a practical, hands-on approach, the program ensures students gain real-world experience and are well-prepared to meet industry standards. This program is ideal for those already working in the healthcare sector, seeking to enter the field of patient transport. Completing this nationally accredited Certificate III course will allow you to confidently apply for entry-level jobs in the private sector, including roles such as Private Hospital Transport Officer, Patient Transport Officer (PTO), Ambulance Attendant, Ambulance Officer, and Community Ambulance Volunteer.

Graduates can join established non-emergency patient transport companies or hospitals, work in aged care facilities transporting elderly residents to medical appointments, assist individuals with disabilities in accessing healthcare services, or work with community health organisations focused on community health and well-being. Additionally, opportunities exist in private ambulance services specialising in non-emergency patient transport and in medical transport coordination roles as dispatchers or coordinators.

  • Expected minimum duration (months): 6

    Expected maximum duration (months) : 12

    As the participant cohort for this program are existing workers who have extensive experience in the industry sector, 450 hours, delivered over a six-month period, has been determined an appropriate time to deliver this Qualification to this existing participant cohort. However, should a new or inexperienced student express an interest in undertaking the Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport, additional time, mentoring, and support may be necessary to ensure successful completion and competency

  • An individual undertaking this qualification with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

    • Students must hold an open/ unrestricted Australian driver’s license

    • Satisfactorily complete a language, numeracy and literacy assessment prior to or on course commencement to assess capacity to meet the LLN requirements of this course

    • Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills

    • Protective slip resistant footwear/safety shoes must be provided by the student and worn during the practical sessions and assessment

    Online study options:  The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and practical assessment.

    Practical assessment

    • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)

    • Complete a first aid incident report form based on the simulated first aid scenario

    • Perform CPR on an infant

    • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis

    • Manage a casualty with asthma

    • Manage a choking casualty

    • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning

    • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed

    • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation

    • Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain

    • Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)

    Theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions. 

    HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid

    Practical assessment

    • Complete a first aid incident report form based on the adult CPR simulated first aid scenario

    • Perform CPR on an infant

    • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis

    • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning

    • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed

  • After successful completion of the programme students will be awarded a Nationally Recognised Qualification for HLT31120 Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport.

    These units may provide credit towards a range of other health and related qualifications at Certificate II level and above; allowing students to continue with their Medical Service First Response knowledge and training and move into more advanced first aid/response training as a natural progression.

    Students who successfully completed this qualification may be eligible for entry into further study such as:  HLT31120 Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport, or HLT31120 Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport.

Assessments are designed to test both your theoretical knowledge and practical abilities. You’ll complete written and/ or oral questions, presentations, and skill demonstrations in either your workplace or a simulated environment, providing a well-rounded evaluation of your competencies.

What is Credit Transfer?

Credit transfer is a process which provides a person with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a Nationally Recognised qualification, based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. A person may be seeking a credit transfer where the qualification held has been superseded and is no longer current or is very similar to another course they need or wish to attend or they are part way through one qualification and wish to transfer to another similar one. A person who has a Nationally Recognised certificate or statement of attainment for a course, either issued by another institution (RTO), or with Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909), may apply for credit transfer of their unit/s of competency to another. To be approved for credit transfer, evidence of completion must be provided, by way of an authentic or certified copy of the relevant certificate or statement of attainment. You must provide satisfactory evidence that the statement of attainment or qualification is authentic, is yours and that it has been issued by an Australian RTO.
