Course Description

The unit FWPCOT2273 – Trim and Cut Felled Trees – equips students with the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively trim and cut felled trees in forestry, arboriculture, or land management settings. This unit focuses on developing practical abilities in the use of chainsaws and other cutting tools, ensuring learners can work efficiently while adhering to safety protocols and environmental standards.

Throughout the course, students will learn how to assess felled trees, determining the most effective trimming and cutting methods to remove branches and process timber. The unit emphasises the importance of using correct techniques for chainsaw operation, maintaining cutting equipment, and ensuring safety through the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and hazard identification. Trim and cut felled trees

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Refresher Face to Face contact time of at least 7 Hours
Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 14 Hours

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • The visual acuity and manual dexterity to disassemble a chainsaw, sharpen the chain and other components and reassemble the serviced chainsaw components.
  • Basic skills to interpret and complete workplace documentation using technical and workplace specific vocabulary; and effectively consult and coordinate with team members and other appropriate personnel to complete the work
  • It is recommended students wear lace up steel boots, chain saw trousers or chaps and a 3 in one helmet (hard hat, wear muffs and visor)

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

This certificate does not require renewal

Performance Tasks:

  • Conduct trimming and cutting on felled trees, demonstrating six (6) different cut types
  • Maintain chainsaw and cutting attachments
  • Complete relevant workplace records and forms

 Theory Assessment:

  • A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.
