Course Description

The unit RIIVEH305F – Operate and Maintain a Four Wheel Drive Vehicle – equips students with the skills and knowledge required to safely operate and maintain a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle in a range of off-road and challenging conditions. This unit is ideal for individuals working in industries such as mining, construction, agriculture, and emergency services, where navigating difficult terrain is a regular part of the job.

Throughout the course, students will learn how to effectively operate a 4WD vehicle in different environments, including mud, sand, rocky surfaces, and steep gradients. The training covers essential techniques such as negotiating rough terrain, using low-range gears, and managing vehicle recovery in challenging conditions. Additionally, students will gain practical knowledge in conducting pre-operational checks, performing basic vehicle maintenance, and applying safe driving practices to ensure both the vehicle and driver remain in optimal condition during off-road operations.

This unit is essential for workers who need to operate 4WD vehicles as part of their daily tasks, particularly in industries that require access to remote or rugged locations.

Upon completing RIIVEH305F, students will be equipped to confidently operate and maintain a four-wheel drive vehicle, ensuring safety and efficiency in off-road conditions. The skills learned in this course will enable drivers to navigate tough terrains with greater confidence, contributing to safer operations and vehicle longevity in demanding environments.
