Course Description

This course set, featuring the units HLTAID014 and HLTAID015, is designed for individuals who require advanced skills in emergency response, particularly those working in high-risk environments or roles that demand specialised first aid training. It prepares participants to manage critical situations, provide life-saving care, and support advanced resuscitation efforts, making it ideal for those in healthcare, emergency services, or industries with heightened safety risks.

Together, these units offer a comprehensive package of advanced emergency skills, preparing students to manage severe medical emergencies and support critical care efforts. Ideal for those working in high-risk fields, the course ensures participants are well-equipped to handle complex first aid and resuscitation tasks, aligning with regulatory and industry standards across various sectors.

Units Delivered

HLTAID010

Provide basic emergency life support

HLTAID014

Provide Advanced First Aid

HLTAID015

Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy

HLTAID009

Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

HLTAID011

Provide First Aid

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 18 Hours
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 8 Hours

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins. 

Online study:  Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

The units have the following recommended renewal periods:

HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support - 36 months

HLTAID014 - Provide Advanced First Aid - 36 months

HLTAID015 - Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy - 12 months

HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation - 12 months

HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid - 36 months

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

  • Simulated First Aid Scenario – Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment, an AED and placing the casualty into the recovery position )
  • Perform CPR on an infant
  • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
  • Manage a casualty with asthma
  • Manage a choking casualty
  • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning
  • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
  • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
  • Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain
  • Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)
  • Coordinate a multiple casualty incident 
  • Manage a casualty with life-threatening bleeding and provide supplemental oxygen
  • Maintain resuscitation equipment
  • Complete two separate incident report forms 

Theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions.
