Course Description

The HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course is Australia’s current national unit of competency, regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and delivered by Allens Training RTO #90909, a registered training organisation in Toowoomba. This course is essential for those seeking to obtain or renew their first aid certificate, ensuring they are prepared to respond to emergency situations in various settings, including workplaces, educational institutions, and community environments.

HLTAID009 Course Overview

The HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course focuses on teaching participants how to respond to cardiac emergencies by performing CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines. The training includes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, covering:

  • Recognising and assessing emergency situations

  • Performing CPR on adults, children, and infants

  • Using an automated external defibrillator (AED)

  • Communicating effectively with emergency services

  • Understanding legal and ethical considerations related to first aid course

Successful completion of this first aid course in Toowoomba results in a nationally recognised statement of attainment (first aid certificate), valid for 12 months, after which a CPR refresher course is recommended to maintain competency.

HLTAID009 Course Delivery Modes

Face-to-Face Training

For those who prefer in-person learning, face-to-face sessions are available across Toowoomba. These sessions provide hands-on experience with direct supervision from qualified trainers, allowing participants to practice CPR techniques on adult manikins and receive immediate feedback. The practical demonstration component is crucial, as assessment requires participants to perform uninterrupted CPR for at least two minutes, ensuring they can maintain proper compression depth and rescue breathing ratios in real-life scenarios.

Blended Online & Face-to-Face Learning

Blended learning options combine online theory modules with a short in-person practical assessment. Face to Face contact time of at least 20 Mins. This format is ideal for busy professionals, allowing them to complete the theoretical components at their own pace before attending a brief practical session to demonstrate their CPR skills. The online modules cover essential topics such as basic emergency life support principles and the DRSABCD action plan, aligning with ARC guidelines.

CPR Refresher Courses

For individuals whose CPR certification is nearing expiry, express refresher courses are available. These sessions focus on updating knowledge of current ARC guidelines and reinforcing practical skills through demonstration exercises. Refresher courses are typically shorter in duration and are suitable for those whose previous training has not lapsed significantly.

Assessment Requirements

To achieve certification, participants must demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and practical skills:

  • Practical Demonstration: Performing uninterrupted CPR for at least two minutes on a floor-placed manikin, demonstrating correct compression depth, rate, and rescue breathing coordination.

  • Theory Assessment: Completing a written assessment covering topics such as ARC guidelines, emergency situation recognition, and communication with emergency services.

These assessments ensure that graduates are equipped to apply their CPR skills effectively in various emergency scenarios.
