Course Description

HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – is a nationally recognised unit designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in emergency situations. This essential training teaches participants how to respond quickly and effectively when someone experiences cardiac arrest, ensuring that life-saving actions can be taken before professional medical assistance arrives. The unit covers all aspects of administering CPR, including assessing the situation, providing chest compressions, and delivering rescue breaths.

Participants will learn how to recognise the signs of a cardiac emergency, such as unresponsiveness or abnormal breathing, and apply the DRSABCD action plan to manage the situation safely. The course emphasises the practical application of CPR techniques on both adults and infants, as well as the correct use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). This training is highly hands-on, giving learners the opportunity to practice these life-saving techniques in a simulated environment to build confidence and competence.

The HLTAID009 unit is suitable for individuals across a wide range of industries, including healthcare, education, fitness, and community services, or for anyone who wishes to be prepared in the event of a medical emergency. Upon successful completion, participants will have the ability to perform CPR in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, making them valuable responders in emergency situations.

As a core unit for many workplace health and safety requirements, HLTAID009 is a crucial component of first aid training. The skills gained from this course can make a significant difference in saving lives, whether in a professional setting or within the community.
