Course Description

The RIISS00034 – Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set, commonly known as the Standard 11, is an essential qualification for individuals seeking to work in the Queensland coal mining industry. This course provides foundational knowledge and practical skills required to ensure a safe working environment in surface mining operations. It covers key areas such as hazard identification, risk assessment, workplace procedures, emergency response, and compliance with industry regulations, aligning with the Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999.

Designed for new entrants and existing workers in the mining sector, this skill set equips participants with the competencies needed to meet industry safety standards and legal requirements. Training includes understanding site safety protocols, working safely with others, and responding to potential hazards and emergencies in a surface coal mining environment. Completing this course enhances job opportunities within the mining industry by ensuring compliance with employer and legislative requirements.

Many mining companies require workers to hold a Standard 11 qualification before entering a site, making this course a critical step for those looking to secure employment in Queensland’s coal mines. Upon successful completion, participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, valid for five years, after which a refresher course is recommended to maintain compliance. Whether you are starting your mining career or need to renew your certification, this course ensures you have the essential safety knowledge to work confidently in the industry.
