Course Description

The Remote Advanced First Aid Course, which includes the units HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in Remote or Isolated Sites, HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid, and HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy, is designed to equip individuals with advanced first aid skills tailored to remote and challenging environments. This course is ideal for those working in remote areas such as outdoor guides, rural workers, and emergency response teams who may need to manage medical emergencies without immediate access to professional medical services.

This comprehensive course prepares participants to handle medical emergencies in remote and high-risk environments with confidence and advanced capability. It is essential for individuals responsible for the safety and care of others in isolated settings, to ensure they are prepared to deliver life-saving interventions and manage emergencies effectively.

Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

HLTAID010

Provide basic emergency life support

HLTAID011

Provide First Aid

HLTAID013

Provide First Aid in remote or isolated site

HLTAID014

Provide Advanced First Aid

HLTAID015

Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 18 Hours 30 Mins
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 8 Hours

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including CPR and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins.

Important note: In order to issue an accredited certificate, CPR must be performed on the floor with no exemptions.

Online study options:  The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and practical assessment.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

The units have the following recommended renewal periods:

HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation - 12 months

HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support - 36 months

HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid - 36 months

HLTAID013 - Provide First Aid in remote or isolated site - 36 months

HLTAID014 - Provide Advanced First Aid - 36 months

HLTAID015 - Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy - 12 months

Practical scenarios and performance tasks:

  • Performance Task – Adult CPR (incl. 2 mins of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR, 2 mins bag-valve-mask and 2 mins compression two-rescuer CPR, defibrillation, selecting and inserting appropriate airway adjunct, managing oxygen equipment appropriately and managing an unconscious breathing casualty)
  • Performance Task – Infant CPR
  • Performance Task – Anaphylaxis
  • Performance Task – Asthma
  • Performance Task – Choking
  • Performance Task – Non-life-threatening-bleeding, minor wound cleaning & shock
  • Performance Task – Nosebleed
  • Performance Task – Fractures & dislocations
  • Performance Task – Sprains and strains
  • Performance Task – Envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)
  • Performance Task – Hyperthermia
  • Complete a first aid incident report form based on the simulated first aid scenario
  • Simulated first aid scenario – first aid response in a remote site (incl. Basic triage for a multiple casualty incident (hypothermia, life-threatening bleeding (using tourniquets and haemostatic dressings), and head, neck and spinal injuries)
  • Performance Tasks – Manage life-threatening bleeding and provide oxygen
  • Complete a first aid incident report based on Performance Task - Manage life-threatening bleeding and provide oxygen
  • Performance task – Maintain resuscitation equipment

 Theory assessment:   A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.
