Course Description
The HLTAID015 Express – Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy (Express) course equips individuals with the essential skills and knowledge to perform advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy in critical emergencies, delivered in a fast-tracked format. This course is designed for experienced first aiders, healthcare professionals, lifeguards, and emergency responders who need a quick, intensive refresher or certification in advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy.
Throughout the express course, participants will learn how to conduct advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and administer oxygen therapy using specialised equipment, including bag-valve-mask devices and oxygen cylinders. The training covers the management of airway obstructions, handling cardiac or respiratory emergencies, and delivering high-level care to patients in life-threatening situations. Participants will also learn how to maintain resuscitation equipment and work with emergency services to ensure the effective transfer of care.
This express course is ideal for individuals who are already familiar with basic first aid and CPR but need to update or quickly acquire advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy skills.

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.
Course Durations
Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.
Entry Requirements
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins.
Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.
This course has a pre-requisite of HLTAID011 Provide First Aid which much be completed prior to undertaking this unit of competency.
PLEASE NOTE: HLTAID003 Provide first aid is not equivalent to HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and can therefore not be used as a substitute for the pre-requisite requirement.
Assessment Requirements
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.
Certificate Renewal Requirements
The units have the following recommended renewal periods:
HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation - 12 months
HLTAID015 - Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy - 12 months

Assessment Activities
Online theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.
Face to face assessment of performance tasks and practical scenarios:
- Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment, an AED and placing the casualty into the recovery position)
- Perform CPR on an infant
- Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed and provide oxygen
- Complete an incident report
- Maintain resuscitation equipment
