Course Description

Course Durations
Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.
Entry Requirements
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins.
Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.
This course has a pre-requisite of SISSS00118 Sports Trainer Level 1 which must be completed prior to undertaking this unit of competency.
Assessment Requirements
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.
Certificate Renewal Requirements
The units have the following recommended renewal periods:
HLTAID015 - Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy - 12 months
PUAEME008 - Provide pain management - Not applicable
HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation - 12 months
PUAEME007 - Provide emergency care for suspected spinal injury - Not applicable

Assessment Activities
Performance tasks and practical scenarios:
- Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment, an AED and placing the casualty into the recovery position)
- Perform CPR on an infant
- Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed and provide oxygen
- Maintain resuscitation equipment
- Assist a conscious casualty with suspected spinal injury into supine position
- Manage an unconscious breathing casualty with suspected spinal injury
- Manage an unconscious non-breathing casualty with suspected spinal injury
- Two (2) pain management and handover to paramedics scenarios (Options include: Aspirin, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Methoxyflurane or Entonox)
Documentation:
- First aid incident report forms
- Drug register log
Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
