Course Description

The Sports Trainer Level 2 course, which includes HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy, PUAEME007 Provide Emergency Care, and PUAEME008 Provide Pain Management, is designed to equip sports trainers with the advanced skills needed to respond effectively to medical emergencies in sporting environments. This course is ideal for those who already have foundational first-aid skills and want to expand their expertise in managing injuries and emergencies during athletic events, ensuring the safety and well-being of athletes under their care.

The course ensures that sports trainers are fully prepared to handle complex medical emergencies, maintain athlete safety, and provide a high level of care during sporting events.

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 16 Hours
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 3 Hours

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins.

Online study:  Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

This course has a pre-requisite of SISSS00118 Sports Trainer Level 1 which must be completed prior to undertaking this unit of competency. 

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

The units have the following recommended renewal periods:

HLTAID015 - Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy - 12 months

PUAEME008 - Provide pain management - Not applicable

HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation - 12 months

PUAEME007 - Provide emergency care for suspected spinal injury - Not applicable

Please note that enrolment to this course is made with Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909. Please refer to the student handbook on our website for all details relating to rights and responsibilities including complaints and appeals.

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment, an AED and placing the casualty into the recovery position)
  • Perform CPR on an infant
  • Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed and provide oxygen
  • Maintain resuscitation equipment
  • Assist a conscious casualty with suspected spinal injury into supine position
  • Manage an unconscious breathing casualty with suspected spinal injury
  • Manage an unconscious non-breathing casualty with suspected spinal injury
  • Two (2) pain management and handover to paramedics scenarios (Options include: Aspirin, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Methoxyflurane or Entonox)

Documentation: 

  • First aid incident report forms
  • Drug register log

Theory assessment  A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
