Course Set - Sports Trainer Level 2 (Advanced Resuscitation, Spinal Care, and Pain Management)

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

• An official form of photo identification (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, or student ID).
• Physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins*, conducting spinal manual in-line stabilisation (MILS) techniques, kneeling on the floor to perform a log roll as part of a team, assisting a conscious casualty to supine position and using equipment to immobilise a casualty’s spine to transport them away from a hazard
• It is recommended that students have completed the SISSS00118 Sports Trainer Level 1 Skill Set or the following units: SISSSC0015 Prepare participants for sport competition and SISSSPT001 Implement sport injury prevention and management strategies
• To successfully complete this course, students will need to demonstrate the following language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills during training and assessment:
  • Learning: Take in new information, follow emergency steps, and practise skills to respond in serious situations.
  • Reading: Read and understand emergency instructions, equipment labels, and basic medical information.
  • Writing: Write short reports or fill in forms that describe what happened and what care was given.
  • Oral communication: Speak clearly and listen carefully when giving or receiving urgent information during a medical emergency.
  • Numeracy: Use numbers to monitor time, oxygen flow, or treatment steps in the correct order.
  • Digital Literacy: Able to use a mobile phone or basic device to read messages, follow online instructions, complete online forms or access learning resources

This course has a pre-requisite of HLTAID011 Provide First Aid which much be completed prior to undertaking this unit of competency.

PLEASE NOTE: HLTAID003 Provide first aid is not equivalent to HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and can therefore not be used as a substitute for the pre-requisite requirement.

*Important note: In order to issue an accredited certificate, CPR must be performed on the floor with no exemptions.

Online learning: Students must have basic digital literacy skills to navigate online platforms, complete assessments, and access course materials. Before enrolment, students should assess their ability to engage in online learning. Support is available where required. The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and associated assessment tasks.

Delivery mode: Online with face-to-face - The online pre-course learning and theory assessment is expected to take approximately 10 hours to complete. These timeframes are estimates. Individuals with prior experience in similar training may complete the online component in less time, while those new to the subject may need more time to complete all the learning content and theory questions.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

The units have the following recommended renewal periods:

HLTAID015 - Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy - 12 months

PUAEME008 - Provide pain management - Not applicable

HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation - 12 months

PUAEME007 - Provide emergency care for suspected spinal injury - Not applicable

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

• Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment, an AED and placing the casualty into the recovery position)
• Perform CPR on an infant
• Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed and provide oxygen
• Maintain resuscitation equipment
• Assist a conscious casualty with suspected spinal injury into supine position
• Manage an unconscious breathing casualty with suspected spinal injury
• Manage an unconscious non-breathing casualty with suspected spinal injury
• Two (2) pain management and handover to paramedics scenarios (Options include: Aspirin, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Methoxyflurane or Entonox)

Documentation: 

• First aid incident report forms
• Drug register log

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
