Course Description

The unit UEERL0003 – Conduct In-Service Safety Testing of Electrical Cord Connected Equipment and Cord Assemblies – provides individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to perform safety testing on electrical equipment and cord assemblies. This unit is essential for those working in industries such as electrical services, maintenance, and facility management, where ensuring the safety and compliance of electrical equipment is critical.

Throughout the course, participants will learn how to inspect, test, and tag electrical cord-connected equipment and cord assemblies to ensure they meet safety standards. This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

 
Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 7 Hours
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 45 Mins

This course has a prerequisite of UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace.  

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • An official form of photo identification (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, or student ID). 
  • Please ensure you are familiar with any State/Territory requirements. For example, to provide test and tag services commercially to other businesses in Queensland, you must complete an approved test and tag course and also hold an appropriate electrical contractor licence (such as a Restricted Electrical Contractor Licence). For further information on eligibility, see WorkSafe Queensland / Electrical Safety Office.
  • Physical capacity to safely and effectively demonstrate the practical skills required by the unit, including handling electrical cords, cord-connected equipment and portable appliance testing (PAT) devices, in accordance with WHS/OHS requirements.
  • Visual acuity to inspect equipment and read and complete tags

 

Online learning: Students must have basic digital literacy skills to navigate online platforms, complete assessments, and access course materials. Before enrolment, students should assess their ability to engage in online learning. Support is available where required. The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and associated assessment tasks.

 

Delivery mode: Online with face-to-face The online pre-course learning and theory assessment is expected to take approximately 5-6 hours to complete. These timeframes are estimates. Individuals with prior experience in similar training may complete the online component in less time, while those new to the subject may need more time to complete all the learning content and theory questions

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

This certificate does not require renewal

Please note that enrolment to this course is made with Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909. Please refer to the student handbook on our website for all details relating to rights and responsibilities including complaints and appeals.

Performance tasks - The assessor must observe the following performance tasks:

  • Conduct in-service safety testing for two (2) different electrical cords and three (3) items of cord connected equipment which includes a device containing an element; a device containing a motor and a device containing metal oxide varistors (MOV) 

Documentation – The student must compete all documentation according to the required standard:

  • Record and tag two (2) different electrical cords and three (3) items of cord connected equipment
  • Complete the Workplace Register form

Theory assessment - A written exam consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions to be completed at the end of the training session. Students are able to refer to their Learners resource material.
