Celebrating Excellence: Alex Lumsden from Imperial First Aid Named Trainer of the Year

Alex Lumsden from Imperial First Aid has been awarded Trainer of the Year in the Allens Training Partner Awards — recognition of his dedication, professionalism, and passion for raising the standard of first aid education across every session he delivers.
“We work so hard on our craft, as do all trainers, and it’s so humbling and fulfilling to be recognised,” Alex says. “Constantly trying to improve our standard through feedback and colleagues is crucial to what we do, and we’re so grateful to be allowed the opportunity to do this through the Allens network.”
A Thoughtful, Learner-First Approach
Preparation is key to Alex’s training philosophy. Before each course, he takes the time to understand each client’s workplace environment, previous training, and any recent incidents or learning needs. Arriving early allows him to set up, connect with participants, and ensure the day runs smoothly.
During sessions, Alex creates a comfortable and transparent learning environment. “We make sure everyone knows what to expect, that there are no surprises, and we encourage plenty of questions,” he explains. By the end of each session, students are invited to revisit any topic or skill they want to strengthen before they leave.
Confidence, Consistency, and Care
Alex credits the Training Desk platform as a valuable tool that supports consistency and quality across delivery. “It keeps getting better,” he says. “For us, inspiring confidence is key — students need to know we’re here to support them. That reassurance makes a big difference.”
Continuous Growth and Professional Standards
Ongoing professional development is central to the Imperial First Aid team. Trainers regularly complete the same qualifications they teach — ensuring empathy, credibility, and firsthand insight into the learner experience. Equipment checks and quality reviews are built into their routine, reinforcing high standards in every course.
Advice for Fellow Trainers
“Passion is what shines through the most,” Alex reflects. “If you love what you do, it shows. Sharing ideas, concepts, and support with other trainers helps us all keep improving and ensures we deliver training that people truly enjoy.”
