Course Description
The AHCSS00074 – Agricultural Chemical Skill Set – is designed to provide students with essential competencies in the safe handling, preparation, and application of chemicals in agricultural settings. This skill set equips learners with the knowledge needed to manage chemicals effectively while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. It is particularly useful for individuals working in agriculture, horticulture, and pest management where chemical use is common to control pests, weeds, and diseases.
Throughout this course, students will learn critical practices for preparing chemical solutions, selecting appropriate chemicals for specific agricultural needs, and applying them using industry-standard methods. Emphasis is placed on understanding chemical labels, safety data sheets (SDS), and legal requirements for the use and storage of hazardous substances. The course also covers essential safety protocols, such as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and strategies to minimise environmental contamination, including drift management and protecting non-target species.
The AHCSS00074 skill set is suited for farm workers, land managers, pest control operators, and anyone responsible for handling chemicals in agricultural contexts. It provides foundational skills for maintaining safe workplaces and reducing risks associated with chemical use. By completing this skill set, learners will be prepared to meet industry standards and comply with regulatory requirements for the responsible use of agricultural chemicals.
