Course Description

The unit CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (WA) – equips students with the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to work safely and responsibly on construction sites in Western Australia. Commonly known as the White Card course, this unit is a mandatory requirement for anyone entering the construction industry, ensuring compliance with national and state safety regulations.

By completing CPCWHS1001, students will obtain the White Card, a qualification required to enter and work on construction sites in Western Australia. The knowledge and skills gained through this unit ensure that workers are equipped to contribute to a safe and compliant construction environment, protecting themselves and others from potential harm.

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 6 Hours

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Proof of age must be 14 years or over.
  • To successfully complete this course, students will need to demonstrate the following language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills during training and assessment:
    • Learning: Follow instructions, identify hazards and ask questions to ensure safety procedures are understood.
    • Reading: Read short safety signs, labels, and simple written information about workplace hazards.
    • Writing: Fill out basic forms and write simple information.
    • Oral communication: Listen to safety information and speak clearly to share ideas, report hazards, and ask for help.
    • Numeracy: Understand simple numbers and measurements used in safety information.
    • Digital Literacy: Able to use a mobile phone or basic device to read messages, follow online instructions, complete online forms or access learning resources.
  • Valid working email address.
  • Evidence of Identity (EOI): 
    • An official form of current photo identification (e.g. Current Western Australian Driver’s Licence, Current Western Australian learner driver’s permit, Current Western Australian Student Identification, Recent utilities invoice with a Western Australian address and the name of the person to whom the CIT card will be issued). This must show your current Western Australian address.
  • Physical capacity to demonstrate the correct donning and removing of PPE for assessment.

This course MUST be delivered in Western Australia only. Students undertaking this course must be a resident of the state in which the course is being undertaken.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written, oral, and practical assessment tasks.

Assessment of this unit consists of three assessment tasks:

Answering a series of multiple choice and short answer written questions.

Answering a series of short answer oral questions.

Observation of learners demonstrating the correct fitting of the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

  • eye protection
  • hearing protection
  • hard hat
  • high visibility retro reflective vest
