Course Description

The course set including units HLTAAP001 and HLTHPS006 is designed to provide individuals with a strong foundation in understanding human anatomy and physiology, as well as how to assist with clinical procedures. This training is ideal for those pursuing careers in healthcare settings such as hospitals, clinics, aged care facilities, or other environments where direct patient care and medical support are required.

This course set is ideal for individuals aiming to work as healthcare assistants, nurses, or support staff in clinical environments. Upon completion, participants will have a solid understanding of human anatomy and physiology, along with practical skills to assist in clinical procedures, contributing to effective and safe patient care in various healthcare settings.

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 16 Hours
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 2 Hours

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Ability to work with basic information about the human body and use and interpret information that includes references to client anatomy and physiology
  • Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills
  • Numeracy skills to calculate and check correct dosage of medication, expiry dates and client information including basic calculations of ratios and volume
  • Reading skills to correctly check and interpret client information and dosage instructions
  • Language skills to appropriately greet and converse with clients to explain medication requirements and obtain client consent

Online study options: students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online studies.

The Online delivery with face to face Practical assessment delivery mode includes video assessment questions. Occasionally the student will be required to make a video of themselves, either verbally explaining or demonstrating the required assessment outcome. If you do not wish to complete video assessment questions, please consider an alternative mode of delivery (for e.g. a full face to face course).

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Please note: The Online delivery with face to face Practical assessment delivery mode includes video assessment questions. Occasionally the student will be required to make a video of themselves, either verbally explaining or demonstrating the required assessment outcome.  Practical scenarios: 

  • Scenario 1 – Provide assistance with medication – Asthma
  • Scenario 2 – Provide assistance with medication – Anaphylaxis
  • Scenario 3 – Provide assistance with medication – PRN Liquid Paracetamol
  • Scenario 4 – Provide assistance with medication – Eye Drops
  • Scenario 5 – Provide assistance with medication – Tablets

  • Medication Administration Forms

Case studies - The student must use the information presented in the case study and complete all related assessment questions

Theory assessment -   A written assessment consisting of short-answer and multiple-choice questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
