Course Description

The Roadside Safety Awareness for Learner Drivers (ACT) course is specifically tailored to equip learner drivers in the Australian Capital Territory with essential knowledge and skills for staying safe during roadside incidents. This non-accredited course focuses on the unique road conditions and traffic laws within the ACT, ensuring new drivers understand how to handle common roadside challenges and emergencies safely and effectively. It aims to enhance the safety of learner drivers by providing practical guidance on responding to situations like vehicle breakdowns, flat tires, or minor accidents.

Participants will learn about key aspects of roadside safety, such as the proper use of hazard lights, how to pull over safely on ACT roads, and what steps to take when calling for roadside assistance. The course covers essential vehicle maintenance basics, including checking tire pressure, oil levels, and other routine tasks that help prevent breakdowns. Learners will also develop critical situational awareness skills, enabling them to recognise and avoid hazards specific to the ACT’s roadways, such as roundabouts, changing weather conditions, and busy urban intersections.

This course is ideal for learner drivers in the ACT, along with their supervisors, who want to build a solid understanding of how to respond to roadside incidents confidently and safely. It equips students with the necessary tools to navigate stressful situations on the road, reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing their overall driving confidence.

Though non-accredited, the Roadside Safety Awareness course complements formal driving education by providing valuable insights into ACT-specific road safety practices. It prepares new drivers for the challenges they may face on the road, ensuring they are better equipped to handle emergencies while adhering to local traffic laws.
