Course Description

The Aquatic Safety and Rescue for Education Settings course set (HLTAID009, SISCAQU020 & SISCAQU029) is designed to equip participants with the critical skills and knowledge required to supervise, respond to, and manage safety in aquatic environments within schools and education-based programs. Combining first aid, water safety, and rescue techniques, this nationally recognised course set prepares individuals to effectively prevent and respond to emergencies in pools and shallow water settings, ensuring the safety of students and participants at all times.

Throughout this course set, learners will develop competencies in providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through HLTAID009, supervising aquatic activities, identifying hazards, and implementing risk control measures as covered in SISCAQU020, as well as performing safe water rescues and assisting distressed swimmers in SISCAQU029. The training emphasises real-world application, including emergency response planning, effective communication, and adherence to industry best practices aligned with recognised Australian guidelines.

This course set is ideal for teachers, education support staff, swim instructors, and individuals responsible for overseeing aquatic activities in schools, camps, and community programs. It is particularly relevant for those working in roles where duty of care and student safety in or around water is a priority. Participants gain the confidence and capability to manage aquatic environments safely while responding quickly and effectively to incidents.

Completion of this course set supports compliance with workplace health and safety obligations and aligns with standards and expectations set by organisations such as Royal Life Saving Society Australia and Safe Work Australia. By undertaking this training, participants enhance their professional skills, improve safety outcomes in educational settings, and contribute to creating safer aquatic environments for all.
