Course Description

The unit CHCDIV001 – Work with Diverse People – provides individuals with the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully and effectively with people from diverse cultural, social, and linguistic backgrounds. This unit is essential for professionals in fields such as healthcare, community services, education, and customer service, where understanding and supporting diversity is crucial to delivering inclusive and respectful services.

Throughout the course, participants will learn how to recognise and respect individual differences, including culture, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, and disability. The training covers strategies for effective communication with people from diverse backgrounds, avoiding bias, and promoting inclusive practices within the workplace. Participants will also explore the impact of cultural awareness on relationships and how to resolve misunderstandings or conflicts that may arise in diverse environments.

This course can be delivered/assessed fully online, in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Delivery Options with a face to face component.

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Verbal and written English language skills to complete the scenarios and an Incident Report

Online study options:  The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and practical assessment.

 

Fully Online Delivery Option 

 The following additional requirements will apply:

  • Students are required to upload three (3) videos of themselves participating in simulated scenarios to complete the practical assessment component.

  • Participants must have significant communication skills, be able to read and understand forms and the ability to record details accurately of an incident.

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 7 Hours
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 1 Hour 30 Mins
Fully Online - It is expected students may complete the course within 5-6 hours (depending on experience levels) This can be completed over a number of sessions. Your course progress will be saved.

Students completing fully online are expected to complete all learning and assessment activities within six (6) months of enrolment. Failure to complete all requirements may result in your enrolment being disabled/cancelled.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the Assessment Activities section.

No industry recommended renewal is identified on the certificate, employers are recommended to consult with stakeholders to identify appropriate training periods.

All learning activities are contained in the online course and may be presented in a variety formats. This may include, but is also not limited to: video presentations, slide presentations, online learner manuals, fact sheets and/or other downloadable documents.

For delivery options including a face to face component

Practical scenarios:

  • Respect and recognise the needs of people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds in three (3) different situations
  • Select and use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication 
  • Recognise situations where misunderstandings may arise from diversity and formed appropriate responses
  • Deliver an informal information session to new staff reflecting on their own perspectives of diversity

Documentation: 

  • Complete an Incident Report

Theory assessment: A written exam consisting of multiple-choice and short-answer questions must be completed at the end of the training session. Students must answer all questions.

 

For fully online delivery option

Performance tasks & scenarios

• Students are required to upload three (3) videos of themselves participating in simulated scenarios to complete the practical assessment component

• Documentation: Complete an Incident Report form

Theory assessment: Assessment consists of multiple choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
