What is LVR training?

Low Voltage Rescue training prepares you to respond when a worker receives an electric shock near a live low-voltage panel. You’ll learn how to assess the hazard, reduce risk where possible, and extract a casualty using insulated rescue equipment. LVR is commonly paired with current CPR because once the casualty is clear of the electrical danger, immediate action under DRSABCD— including CPR and defibrillation—may be required.

Units of competency included

Low Voltage Rescue unit

  • UETDRMP018 – Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel (commonly recognised as replacing UETDRRF004 during unit transitions).

CPR unit

  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including adult CPR and AED use as part of the DRSABCD action plan.

If you’re successful, you’ll receive a Statement of Attainment issued by Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909).

Who is LVR training in Traralgon for?

This training suits people who work on or near live low-voltage electrical apparatus, including:

  • Licensed electricians and electrical workers
  • Apprentices and supervised electrical personnel
  • Maintenance, facilities and contracting teams
  • ESI-related roles (distribution, transmission, rail and related work)
  • Spotters responsible for observing live work and carrying out an emergency rescue if required

Across Traralgon and the Latrobe Valley, many employers expect both LVR and CPR to be current before workers are cleared for live-work environments.

Prerequisites and what you’ll need

Because LVR is an electrical rescue unit, you may be asked for evidence of relevant electrical background. Common examples include:

  • A current unrestricted electrical licence, or
  • An electrotechnology / ESI qualification, or
  • Relevant safety/WHS units (often referenced examples include UEECD0007 or UETDREL006)

You’ll also need:

  • A Unique Student Identifier (USI) for nationally recognised certification
  • Photo ID
  • The ability to complete practical rescue and CPR tasks (details below)

Skills you’ll practise in LVR and CPR

Low Voltage Rescue procedure

Training includes the practical response steps used on worksites, including:

  • Identifying hazards and confirming it’s safe to proceed
  • Isolating power where safe and possible
  • Using insulated rescue equipment to pull the casualty clear
  • Moving the casualty to a safe area for first response

CPR, AED and DRSABCD response

You’ll demonstrate:

  • DRSABCD decision-making
  • Adult CPR compressions and breaths
  • AED set-up and safe use
  • Clear communication during an electrical emergency scenario

What’s in a Low Voltage Rescue Kit?

Kits vary by workplace, but commonly include:

  • An insulated rescue hook/crook
  • Insulated gloves
  • A fire-resistant blanket
  • A CPR mask/face shield

Training covers when to use the kit and how to handle it safely.

Duration and delivery

Most combined LVR & CPR options include:

  • Self-paced online theory (often around 1.5–3 hours), and
  • A face-to-face practical session (commonly around 3.5–4.5 hours)

Because you must demonstrate competency, LVR training can’t be completed entirely online.

Practical assessment requirements

To be deemed competent, you’ll need to complete:

  • A simulated rescue from a low-voltage panel, and
  • Two minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer CPR (five cycles of 30 compressions to 2 breaths) on an adult manikin positioned on the floor

If you have a condition or injury that may affect kneeling or compressions, plan ahead before booking.

Ready to book LVR Training Traralgon?

Pick the course option that matches your current tickets (LVR & CPR, LVR-only, or First Aid & LVR) and secure a session that suits. Booking for a team? Ask about group or onsite delivery so everyone renews together and stays site-ready.

Renewal and expiry

How long are LVR and CPR valid?

Most employers treat LVR and CPR as 12-month certifications from the issue date.

When should I renew?

Annual refresher training is widely expected across industry. If your certification expires, many sites treat it as not current, which can affect your ability to work on or near live low-voltage equipment.

FAQs — LVR Training Traralgon

Do I have to do CPR with my LVR?

Most workers complete LVR and CPR together because many sites expect both to be current. If you already hold current HLTAID009, an LVR-only option may suit.

Most courses now issue UETDRMP018, which has replaced UETDRRF004 in many training transitions.

No. Theory may be completed online, but the rescue and CPR components must be assessed face-to-face.

It’s suited to electricians, apprentices, maintenance teams, ESI workers, and anyone acting as a spotter during live low-voltage work.

You may be asked to show proof of electrical background (licence, qualification, or relevant safety units such as UEECD0007 or UETDREL006) plus a USI.

You’ll be assessed on the rescue simulation, DRSABCD, AED use, and two minutes of continuous CPR on an adult manikin on the floor.

Most workplaces expect renewal every 12 months to keep tickets current for site rules and compliance.

Onsite and group delivery may be available depending on numbers and scheduling. It’s a practical choice for businesses operating across Traralgon and the wider Gippsland region.
