What is LVR training?

Low Voltage Rescue (LVR) training teaches you how to spot electrical danger, make the area safe where possible, and remove a casualty from live low-voltage electrical apparatus using specialised insulated rescue equipment. In real workplaces, LVR is almost always paired with current CPR, because once the casualty is clear of danger, your next job is to follow DRSABCD and start CPR without delay.

Units of competency covered

Most workplaces look for these current units:

Low Voltage Rescue

  • UETDRMP018 – Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel (this unit replaces the older UETDRRF004 in many training transitions).

CPR

  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including adult CPR and AED use as part of the DRSABCD action plan.

Certificates are issued as a Statement of Attainment by Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909).

Who needs LVR training in Wagga Wagga?

LVR & CPR training is typically required for people working on or near live low-voltage equipment, including:

  • Electricians and electrical workers
  • Apprentices and trade assistants working under supervision
  • Solar, maintenance and facilities teams
  • ESI workers (including distribution, transmission, rail and allied roles)
  • Spotters who are assigned to watch live work and respond immediately if an incident occurs

In many workplaces, current LVR and CPR are treated as a must-have compliance requirement to access sites and perform certain tasks.

Prerequisites and entry requirements

Because LVR is an electrical rescue unit, many employers and networks expect evidence of an electrical background. Depending on the course option, you may be asked to show evidence such as:

  • A current unrestricted electrical licence, or
  • An ESI/electrotechnology qualification, or
  • Relevant WHS / electrical safety units (commonly referenced examples include UEECD0007 or UETDREL006), plus
  • A Unique Student Identifier (USI) (required for nationally recognised training).

You’ll also need photo ID and the ability to complete practical assessments (details further down).

Physical requirements for assessment

To be assessed as competent, you must be able to:

  • Perform a simulated low-voltage panel rescue process, and
  • Complete two minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer CPR (five cycles of 30 compressions to 2 breaths) on an adult manikin on the floor

If you have an injury or condition that may affect kneeling or compressions, it’s worth organising a chat before booking so you can plan safely.

Renewal, expiry and staying compliant

How long is LVR and CPR valid for?

In most workplaces, LVR and CPR are treated as 12-month certifications from the issue date.

When should you refresh?

Annual refresh is strongly recommended across industry because both rescue readiness and CPR performance drop when you don’t practise. Many sites will not accept an expired card—if it’s out of date, it’s often treated as no current certification for site access.

FAQs - LVR Training Wagga Wagga

Do I need CPR to do LVR training?

In most cases, yes. LVR is usually bundled with a current CPR unit because if a worker receives an electric shock, CPR may be required immediately after the rescue. If you already hold current HLTAID009 (CPR), you may be able to book an LVR-only option.

The current unit used by many providers is UETDRMP018 – Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel, which has replaced the older UETDRRF004 during unit transitions.

No. There’s typically an online theory component, but you must attend a face-to-face practical session to demonstrate rescue technique and CPR competence.

LVR training is designed for people who work on or near live low-voltage equipment, including electricians, apprentices, solar installers, maintenance teams, and ESI workers. It’s also important for anyone acting as a spotter on live work.

Many workplaces and training pathways require evidence of an electrical background. This may include an electrical licence, an electrotechnology/ESI qualification, or relevant electrical safety/WHS units (commonly referenced examples include UEECD0007 or UETDREL006). You’ll also need a USI for nationally recognised certification.

Most combined LVR & CPR courses include self-paced online learning plus a practical session. Exact timing can vary depending on the specific course option and session format.

Bring photo ID, wear comfortable clothing suitable for practical training, and be prepared to complete CPR on a manikin positioned on the floor. If your employer requires proof of electrical background or current CPR, have that documentation available too.

You’ll be assessed on both knowledge and practical skills. This includes:

  • Performing a simulated low-voltage panel rescue using LV rescue equipment
  • Following DRSABCD
  • Completing two minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer CPR (five cycles of 30 compressions to 2 breaths) on an adult manikin on the floor

In most workplaces, LVR and CPR are treated as valid for 12 months from the date of issue. Many employers and sites require annual renewal to keep access and compliance current.

If your certification is out of date, many sites treat it as not current, which can affect your ability to work on or near live low-voltage equipment. If you’re close to expiry, it’s best to book before your current certification lapses.

You don’t need to be an athlete, but you must be able to complete practical demonstrations — including kneeling beside a manikin and performing two minutes of CPR. If you have an injury or condition that may affect CPR, contact the training team before booking so you can plan safely.

Yes — if you’re organising training for a crew, onsite delivery may be available depending on numbers, timing and trainer availability. Group bookings can be a practical option for businesses across Wagga Wagga and the Riverina.
