Course Description

The unit PUASAR032 – Undertake Vertical Rescue – equips students with the essential skills and knowledge required to safely conduct vertical rescue operations in challenging environments. This unit is critical for professionals in emergency services, construction, mining, and other industries where rescuing individuals from heights or depths, such as cliffs, buildings, or shafts, is necessary.

Throughout the course, students will learn how to assess vertical rescue situations, manage risks, and use specialised equipment such as ropes, harnesses, pulleys, and stretchers. The training covers techniques for safely ascending and descending while securing and rescuing individuals, as well as the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Students will also gain experience in rigging rescue systems and coordinating with team members to ensure effective communication and safe execution of rescue procedures. Emphasis is placed on following safety protocols and adhering to industry standards.

This unit is ideal for emergency responders, search and rescue teams, and workers in industries where vertical rescue may be required, such as construction or outdoor recreation.

By completing PUASAR032, students will be fully capable of performing vertical rescues, applying advanced techniques and using specialised equipment to ensure the safety of both rescuers and those being rescued. The skills gained in this unit are essential for responding effectively to emergencies in vertical environments while maintaining compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices.
