Course Description

The course set including units PUAFER005 and PUAFER008 is designed to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge to act as fire wardens and use fire extinguishers effectively during workplace emergencies. This training is essential for employees responsible for emergency response, safety management, and fire prevention in industries such as offices, warehouses, retail, and industrial sites.

This course set is ideal for employees designated as fire wardens or those responsible for emergency response and fire safety in the workplace. Upon completion, participants will be prepared to act as fire wardens, manage evacuations, and use fire extinguishers to control fires in accordance with workplace safety standards, ensuring a safer environment for all

Additional Information

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 5 Hours
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 1 Hour

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • An official form of photo identification (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, or student ID). 
  • Protective slip resistant footwear/safety shoes and long pants must be provided by the student and worn during the practical sessions and assessment.  
  • Capability to complete the practical demonstrations for the course, including:
    • Physical capability to handle and use initial response equipment lift and carry some loads using equipment and handle chemical spill kit equipment 
    • Visual acuity to distinguish chemical labelling information, plant and pet identification, and manage outside environments under cold and warm conditions
    • Ability to hear or otherwise detect alarms, warnings, or instructions (or use approved alternative alerting methods)

Online learning: Students must have basic digital literacy skills to navigate online platforms, complete assessments, and access course materials. Before enrolment, students should assess their ability to engage in online learning. Support is available where required. 

The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and associated assessment tasks.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

The units have the following recommended renewal periods:

PUAFER008 - Confine small emergencies in a facility - Not applicable

PUAFER005 - Operate as part of an emergency control organisation - Not applicable

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include: 

Performance tasks:

  • Scenario - Prepare for Emergency Situations (Warden)
  • Scenario – Manage a small chemical spill 
  • Scenario – Operate as a Warden in an Emergency (Paper/Wood)

Documentation - The student must complete the following to the appropriate standard:

  • Emergency equipment fault log 
  • Emergency evacuation incident and debrief form

Theory assessment - A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
