First Aid Courses Sydney: CPR & First Aid Training

Find and book first aid and CPR courses in Sydney through Allens Training for work, study, renewal or everyday emergency preparedness. Compare the main nationally recognised options, then use the live Sydney listings to check current dates, prices, locations, delivery methods and availability before you enrol.

The three main choices are HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting. Choose HLTAID009 when you need to provide CPR only. HLTAID011 covers broader first aid and includes CPR and basic emergency life support. HLTAID012 includes these units and adds first aid response for infants and children in education and care settings.

Allens Training Pty Ltd is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 90909). Nationally recognised training may be delivered and assessed by approved trainers working through an approved training partner on behalf of Allens Training. After successful completion of the applicable enrolment and competency requirements, eligible students receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the units completed.

Sydney first aid training can include face-to-face classes, blended learning, refresher formats or online preparation followed by an in-person skills session. The available format, location, timetable and price depend on the provider and first aid course. If you already know the unit you need, go straight to the live finder and book online.

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Workplace, study, placement and community needs

Child care

HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting

Child care, early learning and other care settings

If you need a first aid certificate for employment, placement or study, confirm the exact unit with your employer, workplace, education provider, regulator or relevant industry body before booking.

HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR Course)

HLTAID009 is the starting point when you need to provide CPR rather than complete a broader first aid course. Students learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the DRSABCD action plan and automated external defibrillator (AED) use.

Hands on practice is required. Students must provide CPR on a manikin on the floor as part of the practical assessment. There is no exemption from this essential requirement for the accredited CPR outcome.

Choose HLTAID009 for CPR training only. If you also need wider first aid skills, compare HLTAID011 instead.

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid includes HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support and HLTAID009. It is a common first aid course for employees, students and community members who need broader emergency response skills.

Course activities include CPR, AED use, hands on practice and first aid response scenarios. Applicable course content also refers to relevant Australian Resuscitation Council first aid and resuscitation guidelines.

Choose HLTAID011 when your workplace or other requirement is broader than CPR alone.

HLTAID012 Child Care First Aid

HLTAID012 includes HLTAID011, HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support and HLTAID009. It is designed for first aid response in an education and care setting, including situations involving infants and children.

This first aid course may suit people working in child care, early learning and other care settings where aid skills may need to address asthma, anaphylaxis or emergencies involving children. Parents seeking nationally recognised first aid skills should still check whether this specific unit matches their needs.

Check Current Sydney First Aid Courses

The live course finder is the source of truth for changing Sydney first aid course details. Current first aid courses can differ by provider, venue, delivery method, date and price.

The live listings can show:

  • first aid course and unit code;
  • provider and trainer information where displayed;
  • exact training location;
  • class date and time;
  • current price;
  • delivery method;
  • available enrolment options.

If Sydney CBD is your preferred location, check the current Sydney CBD listings before travelling. A Sydney CBD course should be treated as available only when the live finder shows an active session.

For people comparing Sydney CBD first aid courses, the live listing is more useful than an old suburb page because it shows the provider and session attached to the booking. If no suitable Sydney CBD date is available, search another preferred location across Greater Sydney.

The same approach applies to CPR courses. Check current Sydney CBD CPR courses or search another location rather than assuming a particular venue always runs the same classes.

Weekday, weekend and different time-of-day courses may be available depending on the current provider schedule. Check the live finder rather than assuming every Sydney location uses the same timetable.

How Long Does a First Aid Course Take?

Duration depends on the first aid course and delivery method. The figures below are minimum possible face-to-face contact times published by Allens Training. They are not a universal total duration for every Sydney class.

Course

Refresher

Blended

Face-to-face

Online preparation + face-to-face practical session

HLTAID009

At least 1 hr 30 min

At least 1 hr 30 min

At least 2 hrs

At least 20 min face-to-face

HLTAID011

At least 6 hrs

At least 6 hrs

At least 7 hrs 30 min

At least 1 hr face-to-face

HLTAID012

At least 7 hrs

At least 7 hrs

At least 9 hrs

At least 1 hr face-to-face

Online-prepared first aid courses also include estimated pre-course study. Current estimates are about:

  • HLTAID009: 1.5 hours
  • HLTAID011: 5.5 hours
  • HLTAID012: 7 hours

Students can work through this component at their own pace before they attend the scheduled class. Total learner time can therefore be longer than the face-to-face figure.

This is why a single claim that Sydney first aid courses always take between 1.5 and 8 hours would not accurately describe all Allens delivery options.

How Are First Aid Skills Assessed?

Practical assessments form part of the first aid training evaluation process. Depending on the unit, students may answer written questions, demonstrate CPR and AED use, and respond to simulated emergency scenarios.

The assessment process checks both knowledge and the ability to perform the required first aid skills. Completing online theory or simply attending a class does not guarantee an aid certificate.

For accredited CPR, students must demonstrate cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a manikin on the floor. Practical assessment requirements cannot be removed where they are essential to the unit.

Hands on practice gives students a chance to apply what they have learned in a controlled setting. This practice can support understanding and confidence, but no first aid course can guarantee how a person will respond in real life.

What Do I Need Before I Attend?

Check the instructions attached to your booking. Common requirements for these accredited first aid courses include:

  • official photo ID;
  • a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI);
  • any required pre-course work;
  • suitable clothing for floor-based CPR and other practical activities;
  • internet access and a suitable device when online learning applies.

Approved trainers must meet Allens' relevant credential, vocational competence and industry-currency requirements before they deliver within the approved arrangement.

If you have concerns about completing a required physical activity, contact the provider before you attend. Reasonable adjustment may support access, but it cannot remove an essential competency requirement.

Is First Aid Training Nationally Recognised Australia Wide?

HLTAID009, HLTAID011 and HLTAID012 are nationally recognised units when delivered and assessed within Allens Training's RTO scope.

These courses provide nationally recognised training, but the units are not full nationally recognised qualifications. The outcome is recognised Australia wide within Australia's vocational education and training system.

An employer, workplace, regulator or site may still specify the exact unit and currency required. National recognition does not mean that one first aid certificate automatically meets every workplace or industry requirement.

Where an approved provider delivers a first aid course, the training and assessment are delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909. Accreditation and outcome wording should always match the current unit and RTO scope.

How Long Is a First Aid Certificate Current?

Allens lists these industry-recommended renewal periods:

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation: 12 months
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid: 36 months
  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting: 36 months

This is often described as HLTAID009 CPR certification being valid for one year and an HLTAID011 first aid certificate being valid for three years. The more accurate wording is that these are industry-recommended renewal periods, not universal legal expiry dates.

Your employer, workplace, regulator, industry or site can set a different currency requirement.

Group Bookings and Onsite First Aid Courses

Employers and managers can ask about group bookings or onsite first aid courses in Sydney. These workplace courses can help organisations coordinate first aid training for multiple participants without booking each person into separate public classes.

Availability depends on:

  • the first aid course required;
  • participant numbers;
  • workplace location;
  • trainer availability;
  • preferred dates or shifts;
  • available room and practical activity space.

When you contact Allens, provide your participant estimate, preferred location and whether you want onsite or arranged-venue delivery.

There is no universal published minimum group size for every Allens booking. Client Services can confirm the suitable workplace arrangement, applicable fees and venue requirements.

Enquire About Group Training

Other First Aid and CPR Courses

Some roles need more specialised courses. Options can include:

  • HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in remote or isolated site
  • HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid
  • HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
  • HLTSS00068 Occupational First Aid Skill Set
  • CPR courses combined with low-voltage rescue for applicable electrical roles

Specialist first aid courses can have prerequisites or extra entry requirements. Check the individual course before you join a class rather than assuming a general first aid certificate meets the requirement.

Allens also lists separate mental health courses for people who need skills related to mental health concerns and support for a person experiencing a mental health crisis. Mental health support is a different learning need from physical first aid and CPR.

Sydney First Aid Course FAQs
